My Ship by Marian Vinissa I. Zorrilla
My journey to a new place
My dreams I hope to unveil
But fears lure in many ways
I know my ship is not easy to sail

Unlike other people's state
Ours is coming home to a home that's not ours
This I prepared my self for such fate
But even the strongest quivers, bends and bows

The first days I solely realize
I trudge a long and rough road
Every penny's worth paid the price
To bear disrespect and discrimination I was told

But nights pass I hear more quietness
The longing of my family's sound of laughter
Tears run down haunted by homesickness
In exchange for a bountiful and better future

Though not every harvest yields all bad fruits
I'll find if I seek understanding and respect
I'll obtain peace as I search the truth
Humanity prevails, I pause to reflect

Such stages of intricate adjustment
Is normal for one of a kind sailor
I know my ship will sail with contentment
I know the waters will soon flow in my favour

Months pass I began to appreciate
The chance to rediscover one's self
The chance to explore and create
A new day, a new life, a new self

Prioritizing my health is my duty
What I eat, what I read and what I do
These are the ways to be healthy
Thus, holistic living is what I pursue

Quality food and sports for the body
Positive and helpful contents for the mind
My family and some real good friends
For my enduring heart to unwind

Finally, there's one more that holds me together
My faith in God's burning love
That even if I sail through bad weather
He'll guide my ship or let me fly like a dove
About the Poem: "My poem explains about the stages of adjustment of being a migrant domestic worker far from home. There are some instances in our lives when we feel down and lonely and some situations make it worse but at the end of the day if we just look at the bright side ,there are hundreds of possibilities waiting to be uncovered. And self improvement will improve us to be more positive in life and live in a holistic way (mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually)thus achieving our goals and wellbeing."
