Beam

By Margen (Gin) Quimanhan
Born in Poverty,
Money does not come easy,
Not because we’re lazy,
But because hand labor only worth a penny.
Often used and looked down,
Parent’s whose lack of education,
Cannot read, cannot write,
Treated as if they don’t have any rights.
Unfair as it seem,
This is our reality, we can’t even dream,
How I wish I could raise our beam,
So I can stand on, and make a dream.
They say change should start from within,
Work, Act, and Learn,
Stop playing a victim, work harder to get on that beam,
It’s the only way to achieve a dream.
Did my best to get on that beam,
Taking in every learnings, wisdom, information’s, just to form a stem,
Rooting for myself, taking chances even if the lights were dim.
Proving poverty that, it is possible for us to dream.
Working day by day,
Taking every opportunity that comes my way,
I made it look so easy,
What can I say, I was born in poverty.
It's about me growing up in a very poor, marginalize farmer family. How I witness my parents being used ,scammed and even denied their rights just because they coudn't read and write. And theres me wanting to change that, hoping to raise our beam. I am not the eldest among my siblings but I was a bread winner of the family. My eagerness to learn, discover new things, educating my self thru reading, attending workshop, join volunteer works, and to never stop growing, help me get on the beam and because of this I was able to influence my siblings to do the same. To dream, to work hard, to never use poverty as an excuse. Now together with my siblings we were raising our beam. Thank you and God Bless.
