Fortitude (Power in the face of adversity)

By Tonette Rodriguez Albo

Surviving in a challenging environment often requires resilience, adaptability, and determination. Just like the cactus, which thrives in the harsh conditions of the desert, we foreign domestic mothers embody these qualities as we navigate the complexities of life transitions for the sake of our children’s futures.
We Foreign domestic mothers often encounter difficult circumstances when relocating to another country. We leave behind our homes, families, and familiar surroundings to provide for our children. We often take on demanding jobs, such as caregiving and housekeeping, which require them to work long hours under strenuous conditions. Despite the challenges, our commitment to our children drives us to work tirelessly. The cactus, which stores water to survive long dry spells, symbolizes how we mothers find ways to cope with our situation and keep our family afloat.
Despite life’s transitions and challenges, we remain steadfast in our commitment to family and future aspirations. Our journey, much like the survival of the cactus, highlights the power of perseverance, hope, and the unbreakable bond of motherhood.
