Light in the Darkness
As an OFW in Hong Kong, living away from my family has been a difficult yet life-changing experience. Art has become my refuge, a way to express my emotions and experiences. One of my most significant works, “Light in the Darkness,” represents my strength and personal growth. This artwork portrays two women: an abstract figure representing the challenges and emotions that have shaped me, and a forward-facing figure symbolizing resilience and hope. The lines and colors reflect life’s complexity, showing how struggles can create beauty and meaning. Throughout this journey, I’ve learned to see challenges as opportunities for growth. Staying positive has been crucial, reminding me that difficulties are temporary and have a purpose. Taking care of mental health and managing emotions is essential—acknowledging feelings, accepting reality, and focusing on self-care bring strength and clarity. “Light in the Darkness” is more than just an artwork; it’s a testament to the power of overcoming hardships. It reminds us to keep going, see failures as lessons, and always value self-love. Through my art, I continue to discover hope and light, even in the darkest times of life.

Jane Alaveran
I am Jane Alaveran, a Filipino from Iloilo City, Philippines known as the City of Love, and I have been living and working in Hong Kong for five years. My love for art started when I was just six years old, and I have continued to pursue this passion throughout my time here, particularly during the pandemic. As an artist drawing is more than a mere hobby for me; it is my passion, a gateway into a realm of imagination, and a vital form of self-expression. Each stroke of my pencil brings me peace and fulfillment, connecting me deeply with my soul and with God. I have discovered my life's purpose: to share the artistic gift bestowed upon me by God with everyone.
